Review: Grum – Heartbeats LP

Heartbeats‘ is Grums debut record, but that being said he has had much success in the past few years leading up to this release. Recently his remixes of Jump Jump Dance Dance and The Priors have stood out above the rest, and in my opinion he has really found his sound.

This record doesn’t have any weak spots, no one song sticks out as being rushed or unfinished and it sounds like Grum wrote the album he wanted. Due to his recent success, i was expecting this record to have been tailored more to fit a particular market. Instead it reminds me of soundtracks composed by Brad Fiedel or even John Carpenter.

Special mention for sampling Don Johnson‘s Heartbeat.

Overall this album is worth tracking down. I can’t wait to hear remixes/re-edits of some of the darker songs!
